Shalom,
We are thrilled to welcome you to SJO: Study Judaism Online.
You are joining a thoughtful, structured learning environment designed to support your growth in Jewish knowledge, practice, and understanding—at a pace that is both meaningful and sustainable.
Please review the information below to understand how SJO is structured and how to get started.
How to Begin Your Learning
SJO is designed to be structured yet flexible. There are two core requirements, the reading list and Welcome To Judaism class, along with optional weekly enrichment classes.
You may begin in the way that best fits your learning style and schedule.
The overview below is meant to help you get started, however,
all components, expectations, and requirements are explained in greater detail in the Welcome Packet, which remains an important part of your onboarding.
Reading List
- The reading list introduces foundational Jewish concepts and practice
- Welcome to Judaism by Rabbi Golan is the primary companion text to the class series
- The Siddur and Chumash are required for you to own and become familiar with, not read from beginning to end
- You may purchase the books at your own pace
Welcome to Judaism Class
- A structured, pre-recorded class series
- Includes required quizzes for progression
- Lessons align with required reading material
➡️ You may start with either reading or the Welcome To Judaism class — or complete both together.
Optional Weekly Live Classes
(Highly Encouraged)
In addition to the requirements above, students are invited to attend weekly live classes:
- Introduction to Jewish Law
- Jewish Q&A
- Judaism 101
- Beginner's Hebrew
These classes are:
- Not required
- Designed to enrich and deepen your learning
- Open to attend live or via recordings
Participation is encouraged but entirely optional.
